Having a car may help you to easily reach any spot of the lake and the surrounding area, but it is not the best option if you are not comfortable driving on narrow, curvy Italian streets or if you come in the high season when it is hard to find parking.<\/p><p data-start=\"584\" data-end=\"789\">Luckily the cities and villages of Como lake are reachable by public transport, so here we will collect info about how to plan a route and where to buy tickets.<\/p><h3 data-start=\"791\" data-end=\"834\">Knowing Lake Como geography<\/h3><p data-start=\"836\" data-end=\"1069\">Before we start, note that Como lake is large, so the choice of transport will depend a lot on where exactly you go. The lake has two branches:<strong data-start=\"1038\" data-end=\"1047\"> Lecco<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1060\" data-end=\"1068\">Como<\/strong> sides.<\/p><ul data-start=\"1071\" data-end=\"1866\"><li data-start=\"1071\" data-end=\"1414\"><p data-start=\"1073\" data-end=\"1414\"><strong data-start=\"1076\" data-end=\"1092\">Como branch<\/strong> is more luxurious and is full of private villas. The city of <strong data-start=\"1187\" data-end=\"1195\">Como<\/strong> can be reached by train from <strong data-start=\"1235\" data-end=\"1245\">Milan<\/strong> or <strong data-start=\"1251\" data-end=\"1261\">Lugano<\/strong> (Switzerland), but to go up the lake, you can only use<strong data-start=\"1335\" data-end=\"1346\"> buses <\/strong>or <strong data-start=\"1349\" data-end=\"1361\">boats<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1416\" data-end=\"1866\"><p data-start=\"1418\" data-end=\"1866\">The <strong data-start=\"1421\" data-end=\"1438\">Lecco branch<\/strong> is more convenient for public transport users since all its cities are connected by a train line that starts from <strong data-start=\"1536\" data-end=\"1546\">Milan<\/strong>, passes all the front lake cities from <strong data-start=\"1608\" data-end=\"1617\">Lecco<\/strong> to <strong data-start=\"1625\" data-end=\"1635\">Colico<\/strong>, and arrives in <strong data-start=\"1654\" data-end=\"1665\">Sondrio<\/strong> in <strong data-start=\"1673\" data-end=\"1687\">Valtellina valley<\/strong>. The city of <strong data-start=\"1701\" data-end=\"1710\">Lecco<\/strong> is also reachable by direct <strong data-start=\"1737\" data-end=\"1765\">train from Bergamo<\/strong>, which makes it beneficial for those who arrive at <strong data-start=\"1825\" data-end=\"1865\">Bergamo airport<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1868\" data-end=\"1943\">The mountain villages can be reached <strong data-start=\"1923\" data-end=\"1942\">only by bus<\/strong>.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped\"><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/myamazingtimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/la-mappa-pescarenico.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-39468\" src=\"https:\/\/myamazingtimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/la-mappa-pescarenico-1024x840.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/figure><p data-start=\"88\" data-end=\"260\"><strong data-start=\"88\" data-end=\"102\">Note<\/strong> that <strong data-start=\"106\" data-end=\"132\">there is no Uber in Italy<\/strong>! The Italian cab drivers had protested against Uber, saying that Uber stole their job <strong data-start=\"244\" data-end=\"259\">and won<\/strong>.<\/p><p data-start=\"262\" data-end=\"565\">Unfortunately, <strong data-start=\"301\" data-end=\"339\">there are not many cab drivers in the area<\/strong>, and very <strong data-start=\"343\" data-end=\"377\">few of them speak English<\/strong>. So if you plan to use a cab, <strong data-start=\"455\" data-end=\"526\">check in advance some cab phone numbers<\/strong> in the city where you go.<\/p><h1 id=\"Trains\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a0<\/h1><h1 id=\"Trains\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Trains<\/h1><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"83\" data-end=\"377\">There is a train line only at the Lecco side of the Lake. The city of Como is reachable by train from Milan, but then the train goes to Switzerland, not up the lake. Lecco is well connected to Milan, Bergamo, and lake front villages on the same side until the top of the lake.<\/p><p data-start=\"379\" data-end=\"464\">You can buy tickets on <strong data-start=\"420\" data-end=\"434\">trenord.it<\/strong> or at the train stations<\/p><p data-start=\"466\" data-end=\"792\">If you are planning to travel a lot around the lake or in Lombardy in general, you can buy a special pass, <strong data-start=\"582\" data-end=\"619\">\u201cio Viaggio Ovunque in Lombardia.\u201d<\/strong> It is valid on regional trains, buses, the metro in Milan, and some cable cars (only the public ones that bring to inhabited mountain areas). The cost is:<\/p><ul data-start=\"793\" data-end=\"873\"><li data-start=\"793\" data-end=\"813\"><p data-start=\"795\" data-end=\"813\">1 day: \u20ac16,50<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"814\" data-end=\"831\"><p data-start=\"816\" data-end=\"831\">2 days: \u20ac27<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"832\" data-end=\"852\"><p data-start=\"834\" data-end=\"852\">3 days: \u20ac32,50<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"853\" data-end=\"873\"><p data-start=\"855\" data-end=\"873\">7 days: \u20ac43,50<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"875\" data-end=\"939\">You can buy it at any train station.<\/p><p data-start=\"941\" data-end=\"1123\">Children until 14y old travel for free when accompanied by a family member! To benefit from this advantage, you should fill <strong data-start=\"1094\" data-end=\"1122\">&#8220;I travel with my family&#8221; form.<\/strong><\/p><h1>\u00a0<\/h1><h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Boat<\/h1><p data-start=\"75\" data-end=\"567\">Boats are not only a means of public transport, but they are a nice way to spend some time on the lake, it is an adventure in itself! Most of the cities and villages on Como lake are connected by public boat service. A ferry service also connects the central towns (Varenna, Menaggio, Bellagio). <br data-start=\"418\" data-end=\"421\" \/>Note that the boat service is limited in the winter time. So it is always recommended to check the current schedule.<\/p><p data-start=\"569\" data-end=\"813\">You can check the schedule and prices and buy tickets on <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.navigazionelaghi.it\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"630\" data-end=\"698\">https:\/\/www.navigazionelaghi.it\/<\/a>. Buses<\/h1><p data-start=\"52\" data-end=\"321\">Many buses are going around the lake and the nearby areas. We recommend always checking the schedule in advance since some buses go just a few times a day! We would recommend using the<strong data-start=\"268\" data-end=\"278\"> Moovit app<\/strong> to control the schedule.<\/p><p data-start=\"323\" data-end=\"579\">You can buy tickets on board (usually a bit more expensive), in newspaper kiosks, or in tobacco shops (tabaccheria). You can also use any buses without limits if you have <strong data-start=\"472\" data-end=\"509\">&#8220;io Viaggio Ovunque in Lombardia&#8221;<\/strong> pass (see trains section).<\/p><h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Arriving from Airports<\/h1><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A. From Bergamo Airport<\/h3><p data-start=\"78\" data-end=\"142\"><strong data-start=\"78\" data-end=\"142\">From Bergamo airport you can easily reach Lecco:<\/strong><\/p><ul data-start=\"144\" data-end=\"336\"><li data-start=\"144\" data-end=\"239\"><p data-start=\"146\" data-end=\"239\">Take a bus No. 1 from the Airport to the Bergamo train station \u2013 30 minutes<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"240\" data-end=\"336\"><p data-start=\"242\" data-end=\"336\">Take the train From Bergamo to Lecco (note that the last train is at 21.08) \u2013 40 minutes<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"338\" data-end=\"662\">If you have some time to spend in Bergamo and you do not have heavy bags, go to check the \u2018<strong data-start=\"465\" data-end=\"481\">Bergamo Alta<\/strong>\u2019 part of the city! It is the historic center located uphill that is really worth visiting! You can reach it by a funicular. In this case, exit the bus from the airport at the \u2018<strong data-start=\"644\" data-end=\"661\">Bergamo Bassa<\/strong>\u2019 stop.<\/p><hr data-start=\"664\" data-end=\"667\" \/><p data-start=\"669\" data-end=\"699\"><strong data-start=\"669\" data-end=\"699\">From Lecco you can reach:<\/strong><\/p><ul data-start=\"701\" data-end=\"878\"><li data-start=\"701\" data-end=\"771\"><p data-start=\"703\" data-end=\"771\">all the towns on the same side of the lake and Valtellina valley by train<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"772\" data-end=\"819\"><p data-start=\"774\" data-end=\"819\">Valsassina valley by D135 bus<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"820\" data-end=\"878\"><p data-start=\"822\" data-end=\"878\">Surrounding villages by buses (check Moovit app)<\/p><\/li><\/ul><hr data-start=\"880\" data-end=\"883\" \/><p data-start=\"885\" data-end=\"921\"><strong data-start=\"885\" data-end=\"921\">If you need to go to the Como side:<\/strong><\/p><ul data-start=\"923\" data-end=\"1152\"><li data-start=\"923\" data-end=\"1018\"><p data-start=\"925\" data-end=\"1018\">Take a bus No. 1 from the Airport to the Bergamo train station \u2013 30 minutes<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1019\" data-end=\"1116\"><p data-start=\"1021\" data-end=\"1116\">Take a train to Monza \u2013 30 minutes OR take a direct bus from the Airport to Monza<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1117\" data-end=\"1152\"><p data-start=\"1119\" data-end=\"1152\">Take a train from Monza to Como<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1154\" data-end=\"1265\">From Como city, you can move by bus or boat to other villages on the same side.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">B. From Linate Airport<\/h3><p data-start=\"52\" data-end=\"319\">From Linate Airport you should reach Milano Train Stations by metro (it is a new line and is not well connected to the other metro lines yet) and city buses or by direct shuttle (more expensive but faster).<\/p><p data-start=\"321\" data-end=\"484\">The fast trains to Lecco side villages go from <strong data-start=\"392\" data-end=\"411\">Milano Centrale<\/strong> station. The trains to Como start from <strong data-start=\"463\" data-end=\"481\">Cadorna station<\/strong>.<\/p><p data-start=\"486\" data-end=\"544\">To move further, check the previous sections.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">C. From Milano Malpensa<\/h3><p data-start=\"48\" data-end=\"376\">Dall\u2019aeroporto di Milano Malpensa ci sono treni e autobus diretti verso le principali stazioni ferroviarie. The fast trains to Lecco side villages go from <strong data-start=\"227\" data-end=\"246\">Milano Centrale<\/strong> station. The trains to Como start from <strong data-start=\"298\" data-end=\"316\">Cadorna station<\/strong>.
